If I complete the task I have chosen and am still 'in the groove', then I just keep working until my brain craps out (I have ADHD - it's pretty important that I take advantage of the time when my brain is 'working' as I can't force myself to focus unless I'm under extreme time pressure). If I think it will take longer, I try to break it down into smaller chunks (I may decide that I can take a break for every question/couple of questions, depending on how difficult they are). If I estimate that the task will take less than 30 minutes, then I must complete it before I take a break. I prefer to do a set amount of work rather than work for a set amount of time. There we have it, another pyramid scheme to sell book- "flow" only do work that requires you to feel frustrated, overwhelmed, scared, stupid, dumb, that you'll grow and be successful fast. "flow" is a elitism word for doing easy shit that can be replaced by AI or can be delegated to some lower IQ people. It will make you less bored doing the task. A 5 minutes break doesn't break your "flow" unless you have a brain of a goldfish, also you can change your break to 1-2 min if you wanted, like what OP said, pomodoro is a mean to make you feel like you are in control of your work, and the work isn't endless, pomodoro reminds you that you just need to spend time to finish the pomodoro and don't think too much about the result of your work.

We must understand the underlying principles of why Pomodoro works. Just like in physics or math, a deep understanding of the principles is what it takes to master the material and perform well on our tests. The key to making the Pomodoro work is not actually in the 25/5 technique but it in the underlying principles. Then we wonder why this technique doesn't work. The Pomodoro is an interval based technique where you study for 25 minutes and then break for 5 minutes, but this is where most people get stuck and we just focus on the 25 minutes while taking a 5-minute break.
